The process of reforming the country's forest maps has been completed and the first areas with an approved forest map have already been published in the Government Gazette.

However, even after the sanction, the citizens are given the opportunity to correct the mistakes on the forest maps without paying a single euro, since they realized, even belatedly, that their parcels of land are wrongly shown as forest areas on the sanctioned forest maps. In this case, no objections are made, but requests for the correction of an error. Applications are submitted in person to the local Forestry Directorates, so that the service can proceed with their correction. The detection of errors concerns in many cases of inaccuracy and ambiguity, which characterize forest maps, and the correction of errors is considered necessary, given that after the sanction of the forest map, citizens only have the right to take legal action.

  • In which areas have the reformed forest maps been ratified to date?

ARCADIA, ACHAIA, GREVENIA, DRAMAS, ZAKYNTHUS, ILIA, THESPROTIAS, THESSALONIKI, KAVALAS, KARDITSA, KASTORIA, CORFU, KEFALLINA, KILKIS, KOZANI, CYCLADES, LAKONIA, LARISSA, LESVOS, LEFKADAS, MESSINIA, XANTHIS, PIRAEUS, PELLAS, PIERIA, SAMOS, SERRON, FTIOTIDA, FLORINA

By the end of November, the sanctioning of the remaining areas will take place.

  • Who is the correction request for?

It concerns land owners εκτός σχεδίου πόλης στις περιοχές όπου ολοκληρώθηκε η διαδικασία ανάρτησης του δασικού χάρτη.

  • Where can I get information?

The forest map is available on the websites www. Ktimatologio.gr. and in the Forest Departments. Also if you do not know the exact location of your field, you can contact a topographical engineer to locate your property and advise you if the property is indeed shown as forest on the forest map and what needs to be done to correct it.

  • What documents do I submit?
  • The interested party must submit the following:

    1. Related application to the Forestry Department
    2. Contract of his property
    3. The E9
    4. Photocopy of Identity
    5. Coordinates of the area in EGSA 87
    6. Administration documents (e.g. concession, deed of designation, etc.)
    • What are the mistakes that are being corrected?

Errors are divided into the following categories:

    1. Errors due to cartographic backgrounds.

The accuracy of the map, which was created by combining two different images from 1945 and 2007, is generally checked, because in this period of time there were major changes in the landscape.

    1. Errors, due to incorrect placement of thematic boundaries.

In other words, the line that separates a forest area from an estate was not crossed correctly. This occurs mainly at the edges of fields, bordering woodland, where the bulk of the foliage is within private agricultural land.

    1. Errors due to omission or misrepresentation of thematic areas (concerning form or character).

For example, an arboretum or an old olive grove, which due to the strong slope of the ground during the photointerpretation of the aerial photographs, was interpreted as a forest.

    1. Errors, due to omission or wrong entries of elements (matching).

B.C. it does not write inside the polygon what character the area has (DD, AD, DA, AN DX, etc.).

    1. Errors, due to modified elements after image processing due to gradient areas.

By classified areas we mean the areas, which for reasons of national security are shown edited on the map and this may have affected the surrounding area as well.

    1. Errors due to inclusion of low grassland, rocky or stony areas.

Areas located at an altitude of less than 100 meters with an average slope of less than 8% and a maximum slope of less than 12%, which have grassland vegetation or are rocky, are considered to be lowland and should be seen as "other form/cover" (AA ) on the forest map.

    1. Errors due to inclusion of grassland, rocky or stony areas recognized as private.

This category includes the lots, which were given by concessions to private individuals.

    1. Errors, due to inclusion of artificial forest plantations as forest areas.

These are plantations (e.g. white oak groves, Christmas trees, forest plantations), which are created on private agricultural lands, for the purpose of logging, handling and marketing of forest products.

    1. Special errors, due to failure to display actions of the administration before sanctioning the forest map.

This category covers cases such as the deed of designation of the forest department or the boundary of the town plan, the boundaries of reclamation, etc., have not been properly passed.

    • Who reviews the error request?

Requests for the correction of such an error are considered by the Forestry Directorate and do not go to the Commissions of Amtirres.

As long as there is agreement and acceptance of the obviousness of the error, the relevant correction is made.

    • Can the sanctioned forest map be corrected?

Yes. The forest map is exceptionally reformed, despite its partial or total sanction.

    • When is the forest map reformed?

The reformation of the forest map after its partial or total sanction is allowed only in exceptional cases where the forest map has errors regarding the location and boundaries of its sections, taking into account cadastral diagrams and tables, or upon acceptance of a request for cancellation before the Council of State against the sanctioned forest map.

As an exception, the reformation of the sanctioned forest map is also permitted, except in the aforementioned case of correcting a significant error, by adding or deleting the areas that fall under or cease to fall under it in accordance with the forest legislation or by judicial decisions ruling on the acts of them or by court decisions on the ownership issue of grassy, rocky or stony areas of semi-mountainous, mountainous and uneven terrains or by administrative acts concerning areas with approved city plans or areas that have lost their forest character before 11.6.1975 and were incorrectly recorded during the preparation of the forest map.

The revision of the forest map is sanctioned by a decision of the Secretary General of Forests, issued after a proposal by the relevant Forestry Directorate and its approval by the General Directorate of Forests and Forest Environment of the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
